Beloved friends, Forest would like your volunteer time.
Forest is alive and Forest is growing! It’s over half a year since we moved into our new café at 141 Lauriston Place, and things are looking just lovely. Our menu is smacking, our events are hopping, our walls are sparkling, and we even have a new gallery space (a cheeky wee one). Plus, as you might have heard, we have new building plans afoot just around the corner. All we need now is you.
Now is the time to come volunteer at Forest! We want whatever you’ve got. We like your hairstyle. We want that talent you spent five years cultivating and can’t find a job with. We will give you an apron or a website or a table for you to make something stupid and brilliant with. Volunteers get a discount at the café and a drinks or a meal on longer shifts. Plus they get to be part of this daft project. Here’s some stuff you can do.
EVENTS
Forest has a free events book. Anyone can come in and book time to play the bazouki or do a mime marathon or whatever they like. We need a bigger team to help them. Folk who can find artists to bring in, make posters and update websites, and organise the schedule when it gets silly. Making and distributing posters is especially in demand. There will probably be other jobs. Maybe you have your own ideas. Email events@theforest.org.uk or drop in and ask.
SOUND
Apart from the mime one, most of our events need sound equipment. We need folk who know their m2f XLR from their 5-pin MIDI, or who want to learn, or who get hot hauling amps around. IF you’ve got skills we need them and if you don’t we can train you up, as long as you’ve got time. We need folk to help bands set up and take down and all that. Email events@theforest.org.uk or drop in and ask.
WORKSHOPS
We’re trying to get our free workshop series up and running and sharing knowledge in a big liberated love-in of ideas. Like where you turn up at the café for a cup of tea and come out learning how to speak Gaelic while knitting legwarmers. And what the Gaelic for “legwarmers” is. We need people to run workshops, and people to help organise and publicise them. Email info@theforest.org.uk or drop in and ask.
KITCHEN
Our beautiful kitchen! Only there can you know the true pleasure of building someone a mountain of nachos. Washers up, sweepers of stairs, makers of food, red and sticky lifeblood of the Forest. We try to get everyone from all the other groups to help out in the kitchen, but we can always do with more kitchen volunteers. Email info@theforest.org.uk or drop in and ask.
SOMETHING ELSE?
If you have another idea for something that Forest should do, make it happen. Email info@theforest.org.uk, drop in and ask, or just turn up and do it. Do it harder.
SEE YOU SOON
Love,
The Forest
