The Bottom Rung Big Beat Festival 29th & 30th April 6pm-1am
Tony 2-Eyes (Land of 1000 Dances) and Big Gus (The Go-Go) present a line up of Scotland’s finest Garage Punk, Beat, Trash, Rock’n’Roll bands and DJs.

A weekender guaranteed to take your attention as far away from any royal wedding as possible.

Free Entry, Suggested Donation £6 each night, Bring Your Own Booze

Organized in part to help raise funds for The Forest Cafe continued existence this is, in name, a free event but we would like to stress the need for generous contributions to make this event a success. All artists and DJs are giving their time and talents for free.

The Line Up

Janey & The Ravemen

Playing for the first time in Scotland, The Ravemen are an almost complete resurrection of Hamburg era, R’n’R, Beat legends The Kaisers (with the help of a couple of The Rapiers for good measure.) Expect a gear pre-fab-four riot, all beatle boots, skinny ties and leather waistcoats.

The Thanes

Needing little introduction, The Thanes have now been performing their own styled Garage Punk mixed with R’n’B, Folk Rock and Psych for nearly 25 years. This year will see their 9th LP released on Dirty Water Records in the autumn. http://www.myspace.com/thethanes

Les BOF!

Probably Scotland’s only French language Garage Beat combo! 60s French classics from the likes of Jacques Dutronc and Ronnie Bird mixed with their own punked up r’n’b originals. Their debut LP on the CopaseDisques label is out in June.

Hidden Masters

Prog-folk psychadelia from Glasgow. Their debut single ‘Nobody Knows We’re Here’ released on State Records last year is well worth a spin. The group contains ex members of The Needles and Bangtwister. http://www.myspace.com/hiddenmasters

The Brutes

Brute by name Brute by nature! Lo-fi, high octane garage punk from ex Grease Monkeys and Bangtwister members. Recently featured on Shindig magazine’s download CD.
http://www.myspace.com/theebrutes

The Fnords

A female fronted chaotic garage trash trio with more than a hint of surfing guitar. From Edinburgh and Glasgow and featuring one ex member of the legendry Gussets.
http://www.myspace.com/thefnords

Keith Doulgas and The Corps of Discovery

Traditional picked country blues from the master of the green Gretsch Anniversary.
http://www.myspace.com/keithdouglas

Thee Phar’I-sees

Trashy garage rockabilly with a Crampsish edge. From Glasgow.
http://www.myspace.com/thepharisees

Charles Randolph Rivers’ Slim Rhythm Revue

A one man band typhoon! Rockabilly surf blues occasionally towards the Hasil Adkins end of the spectrum. Formerly one half of Thee Phantom Herd.

Prairie Rose & The Wildwoods

This wonderous innocently voiced, trashy, country trio were recently tipped by The List magazine as ones to watch in 2011. Contains an ex Rohypster.
http://www.myspace.com/prairierosethewildwoods

The Leith Links

A metamorphous of former Edinburgh Surf guitar champions Preston Pfanz & The Seaton Sands, now dedicated to the sound of Link Wray and his distorted guitar rumble.
http://www.myspace.com/theleithlinks

Disc Jockeys

Recorded music on the phonograph played to you by your hosts Tony 2-Eyes and Big Gus along with the Vintage Violence DJs playing extreme rock’n’roll from the 50s to the 80s plus R’n’B and Soul from The Mike & Tina Turntable Revue.

Tracer Trails present ROOFRAISER WEEK TWOArrington de Dionyso’s Malaikat dan Singa + The Leg
Forest Hall, 8PM, Friday 1st April

ARRINGTON DE DIONYSO makes trans-utopian world music for a world that exists in fever dreams and hallucinations! Using performance and visual art, he traverses the nameless territories held between surrealist automatism, shamanic seance, and the folk imagery of rock and roll! Ecstasy vs. Madness!

OLD TIME RELIJUN being presently on hiatus, De Dionyso’s most recent project, MALAIKAT DAN SINGA, is a trance-punk outfit featuring bass clarinet, guitars and his trademark wild vocals (multi-spectral harmonic throatsinging combined with grunts, yelps, and barks) – this time, all sung in Indonesian. In Edinburgh he will be joined by BEN REYNOLDS on bass guitar and OWEN CURTIS WILLIAMS playing drums!

Plus maverick, panda-masked vom-rock from Tracer Trails favourites THE LEG – can we expect Moonlight Shadow??

ROOFRAISER is a whole month of live music in aid of the Forest.TENTRACKS is an innovative independent music portal and promoter.

Portrait in Forest Café
Free portrait taking for everyone coming in Forest Café
March 12th and 19th from 1:00pm

One face is one story, your face in Forest Café is not only your story, it becomes Forest Café’s too.

A photographer, Forest Café supporter, Liza, is eager to help Forest Café by throwing a free photography session to take portraits of people who come in Forest Café. Later on portraits will be displayed in Forest Café, and people in photos could buy their own portraits and the money goes to help The Forest’s fundraising campaign.

Also, the whole photography process will be filmed and made into a short film by Yu-Hsueh Lin who is a documentary film maker based in Edinburgh.

Films@The Forest Fundraiser – Call for Submissions
End of Submissions: 22nd of February

Dear Film-maker,

Are you currently studying film and the art of film making?
Would you like to have the opportunity to show your work…… and help an independent art space in Edinburgh?
Doesn’t matter if you’re still a student or an amateur, we give you a possibility to show your art to a wide audience, in a friendly, open venue: The Forest Café!

As a part of our fund-raising campaign, we are organising a day of showing films (any genre) made by local film-makers as an act of resistance in order to save free art through free art.

This event will take place on February the 25th. Please send us your works and a little blurb about you before February the 22nd, to the filmsattheforest@gmail.com address.
Please send only .mov/quicktime format.

For more information, feel free to contact us using the e-mail
address above or join our Facebook group Films at the Forest.
You can also look us up on our blog filmsattheforest.blogspot.com

Hope to see you and your films at the Forest Café!
